Explication

〜人 (にん) is the counter for people. It is used to count how many people there are. The first two are irregular: ひとり (one person) and ふたり (two people). Key points: • 1 person = ひとり • 2 people = ふたり • 3+ people use にん: さんにん, よにん, ごにん • Often used with が or は Example: “学生が三人います” means “There are three students.” Remember the irregular forms for 1 and 2 people. After that, it is straightforward. Practice by counting people in a room: 一人, 二人, 三人, 四人.
