Erklärung

は is the topic marker in Japanese. It tells the listener what the sentence is about. The topic is often something already known or something you want to talk about. Even though it is written as は, it is pronounced “wa.” Key points: • は marks the topic, not always the grammatical subject • It can show contrast between two things • It is pronounced “wa,” not “ha” • It often appears with です/ではありません sentences Think of は as “As for …” For example, “私は学生です” means “As for me, I am a student.” You can also contrast: “私はコーヒーは飲みますが、紅茶は飲みません。” This means “As for me, I drink coffee, but I don’t drink tea.” In beginner sentences, は usually appears once, near the beginning. If you are stating a general fact about the topic, は is a natural choice. When you want to focus on the subject as new information, you often use が instead. So は and が work together: は introduces the topic, and が highlights new or specific information. Start with は for basic identity sentences and simple descriptions. As you learn more, you will notice how は can add contrast or emphasis without changing the basic meaning.
